NIRU

Project(s) by Nicklas Rudolfsson

~ ~ ~ ᚾᛁᚱᚢ ~ ~ ~

NIRU embodies a philosophy of shadowed artistry, channeling the creator's identity into a profound act of expression. It balances the deeply personal with an exploration of the unknown, shaping the incomprehensible through sound and vision. Through NIRU, creation becomes a journey of transformation, where the obscure and the intangible are forged into spaces of raw and meaningful expression.

NIRU manifests as a shamanic rhythm flowing through the underground - a creative force moving within the liminal space of the middle world. It calls forth echoes of the primal and the forgotten, weaving sonic rituals where music and noise transcend the boundaries of artistry. In this realm, creation becomes an offering to the unseen, where shadow and spirit entwine in a timeless dance.

The first steps of my collaboration with LUSSIDOTTER - NIRU & LUSSIDOTTER have taken form. Together, we are shaping an expansive, restless world — a full-length album of over 10 tracks, weaving through dark ambient depths, primal rhythms, cold black metal edges, and trance-like atmospheres. Each sound, each thread, speaks its own truth, and the whole will shift like a spirit caught between realms.

Yet, amidst this creation, one song has risen early from the shadows: "Kom Hädan". A piece both commanding and pleading, it invites the listener to abandon the familiar and walk a path beyond the limits of what we know as real. The voices carry the weight of something ancient and inescapable, yet there is warmth in the call — a glimmer of something waiting to meet us in the unknown.

Kom Hädan

Kom... Kom... Kom... Se! Se!
Vi följer den tråd, vi går åt!
Vi följer den väg, vi går hän!

English

Come... come... come... See! See!
We follow the thread, we are spent!
We follow the path, we pass!

Let "Kom Hädan" guide you into the obscured and unspoken. Begin this journey into transformation — into what lies beyond the veil.

New song "ING".

Background

It was a winter night, harsh and biting, when I found myself deep in the woods. The world was frozen, the air sharp, and yet, in the heart of that desolation, a fire burned. We sat in a circle, strangers and seekers, bound by the rhythm of ancient drums. The beats echoed through the trees, reverberating like a call from another world. The flames danced in defiance of the cold, their warmth seeping into flesh, but not far enough to thaw the chill that lingered in my soul.

Amidst the trance and shadows, she emerged - a figure of timeless presence, a keeper of forgotten knowledge. From her hand, she offered a pouch, its contents humming with unseen power. When my turn came, I reached inside and felt it: a rune, small yet heavy with meaning. Ingwaz. In that moment, the air shifted, and silence settled like a veil. The drums had quieted, leaving only the crackling of fire and the weight of the rune in my hand. A force, raw and primal, coursed through me. I saw my pain reflected in the fire’s embers, but I also saw something more - a strength I thought I had lost. The rune spoke without words, promising that within the ashes of despair, a seed of renewal awaited.

Swedish

ING

askan viskade forna tiders minnen
Kolens glöd bar mitt tysta arv
tiden smidde mig för framtidens famn

English interpretation

The poem "ING" is a lyrical recounting of transformation through the interplay of nature, ritual, and self-discovery. It begins with the moment of initiation: the drawing of the rune. The "pouch of runes" symbolizes the unseen forces that guide us, while the act of choosing represents the reclamation of agency in a time of vulnerability.

The second stanza delves into the essence of Ingwaz, the rune of potential and quiet strength. It becomes a beacon in the storm, a reminder that within destruction lies the seed of creation. The drumbeat, the fire, and the frost serve as metaphors for the balance of chaos and order, pushing the narrator to embrace the duality of struggle and growth.

In the final stanza, the imagery of the burning wood and lingering ash portrays the inevitability of endings. Yet the glowing coals hold a promise - the transformation is not without purpose. The narrator’s "silent inheritance" is the strength forged in hardship, now ready to guide them into the uncertain expanse of the future. The poem’s tone is dark and somber, yet deeply affirming, reflecting the narrator’s journey from brokenness to renewal under the shadow of the winter woods.

New song "VILL". This piece emerged from a request - a poem (in Swedish) by a woman named Lin, who asked if I could bring her words to life through sound. As I read, I felt the essence of her writing called for something minimal, raw, and repetitive.

I began with a single tone, stretched thin across the stillness. Then came a rhythm, steady and unyielding, like a shaman's beat, building slowly in intensity as the piece unfolded. From there, I let the voice take over - monotone and flowing, recorded in a single take.

To this bare structure, I added layers - subtle percussion, more voices, and faint threads of texture. It became something quiet yet deliberate, a fleeting moment captured in its stark simplicity.

My interpretation of the poem by Lin K.:

The poem whispers of a relentless hunger - a yearning to pierce through the fragile surface of existence and descend, deeper than what the light allows. It speaks of the pull toward the ungraspable, where the body meets the pulse of life, raw and unfiltered.

It is not simply about longing, but about surrender - giving oneself to the visceral, the elemental. The water becomes a mirror, the blood a tide, the earth a cradle. There is a quiet desperation here, a voice reaching for every fragment of experience, every fleeting breath, every shadow of touch before it is lost to time.

This is no gentle plea; it is an invocation to feel, to burn, to let life spill into every corner of the soul before it fades. A cry for immersion, to drown not in despair but in the fullness of what it means to be alive. A dance with the unknown, where even darkness offers a strange warmth.

I embarked on a new collaborative venture just before New Year 2024 with a woman who goes by the name Lussidotter. Together, we are crafting material that will be released under the name NIRU & LUSSIDOTTER. What began as simple, raw sketches of demos has turned into an intensely creative journey between us, now swelling into something larger... potentially the length of a full album. While the material was initially focused on demo groundwork, it may well evolve into a debut album in its own right. Time will tell.

As for the style, the project inhabits a loosely defined framework. A blend of minimal, primitive black metal-infused passages, dark ambient soundscapes, and slow, desolate interludes, with touches of improvisation and poetry woven throughout. It’s undoubtedly an exciting project, one that leaves us eager to continue collaborating in the future. We’re in the midst of recording now and plan to release a pre-taste of some kind soon, though the exact form and timing remain undecided.

Biography

This is a solitary descent into shadowed realms by Nicklas Rudolfsson, also known as NIRU. A vessel for unearthly creations, this project exists where light falters and the unknown takes root. Here, I weave sonic rituals that stray from my other bands and projects. While unconfined by rigid genre boundaries, the journey often embraces the haunting expanse of dark ambient, the relentless churn of industrial soundscapes, and atmospheric textures that whisper of desolation. Yet, it remains untethered, a crucible to push beyond these definitions into uncharted sonic territory.

This project holds echoes of my prior incarnation, Visionary Vexations Vibrations (VVV), now resting in dormant slumber. Yet, here, the boundaries dissolve further. Within this evolving framework, I seek to explore and distort the edges of dark ambient, industrial, and ambient soundscapes, to delve into primal rhythms, ritualistic percussion, and whatever lies in the liminal spaces between sound, poetry, and performance.

The offerings are raw and unvarnished, often presented as demos and "unfinished" fragments. Recordings are forged with modest tools — a sampler, synthesizers, open-source software, and the untamed resonance of traditional percussion. The act is not about perfection, but capturing the ephemeral moment. Some creations emerge from the stillness of midnight forests, others from the isolation of abandoned ruins or fleeting moments stolen during restless travels. Each piece is a reflection, a shadow cast by the fire of creation, as fleeting and visceral as the breath of a storm.

I am also open to collaborations and currently have several active collaborative projects in progress...

Spirals beyond the core aka spin-off projects

TERMINAL FUNERAL OMEGA

Among the shifting ruins of sound, a shadowed manifestation takes form - Terminal Funeral Omega. This is not merely a project but a sonic sepulcher, where the weight of death is given voice through unrelenting dirges and spectral resonance. Under this name, I summon the echoes of The Funeral Orchestra, distorting and reshaping our funeral doom into something even more suffocating — where dark ambient, industrial death, and abyssal drones coalesce in oppressive waves.

Yet, Terminal Funeral Omega is not bound by tribute. It is a vessel for new funerary rites, compositions steeped in decay and ritualistic finality. The tolling of downtuned guitars, the breath of metallic overtones, and the pulse of archaic percussion merge into death masses, ceremonial requiems that transcend the mortal coil. Here, sound does not merely mourn — it buries.
